A Unique Initiative
Portuguese Class Students
Despite the Portuguese community being the largest foreign community in Bermuda this was the first ever initiative to have Portuguese Language taught at the local public schools. Read more. . .
Congrats Rui! So young in your career, yet already have articles about you. Did any of the students have any experience speaking Portuguese before the class? Learning new languages is so important, it's so sad that it's one of the first things to go with all of these budget cuts (besides the arts). In Boston, our students don't get a language until 10th or 11th grade mostly. I'm surprised it even meets requirements for most 4-year schools. So sad; we're setting them up not to get into good schools.
What a great article about you and your students, Rui! Thanks for taking the extra time after the school day to teach these young students another language. Teachers like you are very special! These students are very lucky to have you!
I am a Business Studies teacher at a High School, where I teach Financial Management among other courses. I use this blog to keep in touch with my current and former students. Teachers and students at other schools, as well as others interested in Business Studies, Technology in Education, and other educational interests, are welcome to use this resource.

ReplyDeleteCasey,
ReplyDeleteNone of the students had any previous experience with a second language!
